Just human nature just same as natures of animal and aliens
First time i heard about District 9 by newpapers, so many news have been talked about it . But i did not get many different idea between other aliens kind of movies. if you just read the story from wikipedia,then you read more review about this movie, you will get very good and very correct idea about this is kind of movie which nerds and aliens crazyer love. Maybe you are right, i get same idea before i watch this one, but things never get 100% like what in your mind's eye, even 50%. Anyway never give any a simple word to any movie, before you watch it, in particular this is peter jackson`s one(person who product " The Lord of the Rings" And "king kong" ). It could not been bad ...
If you have been watched "Cloverfield", you will know how this movie has been shoot at least the beginning part of , so you will feel little boring at first,. It is looks like newsreel and Documentary Film style. But news is getting change when Wikus van de get the Liquid into his body by a chapter of accidents... Because the aliens so bloodiness, and then we human-beings too, when "we" find out how wikus are valuable, "we" Just do something very Disgusting and very violence too . some scene in this just "better" than any scary movie., at least i felt when i was watching. So if you may not like that kind of movie , this one you should not watch really! Recently i got lucky , i have been read some books about Visual arts and Aesthetics. The movie may looks like a 80`s old movie, the quality of picture give you have feelings that this movie has been made by history and trues, but you still can find out some high film techniques we just use recently. Violence esthetics in this movie has been used so much, but it is necessary, i think. If you have been read the book "The Metamorphosis", you will undestand many scene in this one, like in "The Metamorphosis", the movie to pass out of the pain, despair, fear and unspeakable frustration. When the Protagonist Wikus has been turned his hand like aliens one, he is not human-beings anymore, but he was a one . He is walking alone in the desert, he get any kind of negetive word in his life, painful, despair, fear...we cant see a hero in this aliens movie, or we can call this is dead hero story. Wikus actually is very weak person. He is still human-being, because he is deserting, what ever you say he show out all the human nature we have. He is running because he want live. He get in most dangerous place, because he see the hope and he wife give his a phone call. He is turning his body like alien but he still get a heart like us. It was so moving! when he risks his life to flight with others amd protect two aliens to get away. You may see he just want one day they can help his turn back like normal human, but in my mind, it is a power of love and it is a power of "benign". When you have the love you get hope when you get the hope you can overcome everything, even you are alone in the world. The last scene of D9, a alien was sitting on the ruins, and a metal rose on his hand. It is a kind of desolate thing, but it is also loneliness and so complicated, this movie can give you the experience. This one make my heart break...
The last words , District 9 `s essence is its story, which overturns the traditional idea of sci-fi films. Aliens placed in an extremely delicate position up the whole structure of the plot, then something shines. And this film profound meaning is a metaphor for(South African)the country's former apartheid policy and the so-called District Six. using a process of an ordinary person turn into an alien of the Earth shows the ugly people, and human well-being.

Ps: you may so confused why aliens have very high techniques and very powperful weapons, even human is not a rival, but "we" still can control and keep them like animals. Finally i get idea, becuase they lose their leader and they get somd kind of aimless in their nature. Off course some huma-beings are like them too.
